Decision Support Framework for SLM - National Level

A.1: Stakeholder workshop: Setting the stage and focus

Coming soon - In the first stakeholder workshop at national level, areas with land degradation problems and potential SLM solutions are identified together with relevant national stakeholders. Existing relevant strategies, policies and programmes for SLM mainstreaming and scaling out are discussed.

A.2: Compilation of knowledge base and analysis

A.2.0: Identifying the policy environment

A desk study is carried out evaluating existing national strategies, policies, laws and legislation, programmes related to (S)LM, current and initiatied reform relevant for (S)LM as well as experiences and recommendations of programmes and projects regarding mainstreaming and scaling out SLM.

A.2.1: Map Land Use/Land Management Systems subdivided into administrative regions/watersheds

Guidelines were produced by the FAO-LADA project on 'Mapping Land Use Systems at global and regional scales for LD assessment analysis' which can be followed to create a national LUS map.

A.2.2: Map LD & SLM per administrative region/watersheds, assess LD & SLM data

The LADA-WOCAT Mapping Questionnaire (QM) is used to map land degradation and SLM per administrative unit and/or watershed/landscape.

A.2.3: Analyse and visualize LD & SLM data and identify 'hot regions' and 'green regions'

Coming soon - ISRIC is currently developing a tool for the visualisation of QM data based on the statistic programme R.

A.2.4: List and analyse promising SLM Technology groups and Approaches

The WOCAT Inventory Sheet f is used to compile and analyse promising SLM Technology groups and approaches existing within the region or country and globally, considering also innovative Technology groups that are not existing yet and are not included in the WOCAT Database.

A.2.5: Analysis and Synthesis of steps A.2.1-A.2.4 plus A.2.0

An analysis and synthesis of A.2.0 - A.2.4 is taking place through an expert meeting, facilitated by the moderator/facilitating institution of the decision support process.

A.3: Stakeholder workshop: Evaluation, negotiation and selection

Coming soon - In the second stakeholder workshop priority Land Use Systems/Land Management Systems and regions for intervention as well as Technology groups and Approaches are evaluated and selected, opportunities and bottlenecks for SLM implementation are identified and nationally relevant indicators for M&E of LD and SLM are discussed.
