Save the date: Flavours from our soils

Dear WOCAT colleagues and friends,

Save the date!

We invite you to join us in celebrating the World Day to Combat Desertification and the International Year of Soils at the University of Bern!

Farmers from South Africa and Switzerland will discuss the challenges of growing wine and rooibos in drylands, and present their land management strategies to the public. An interactive exhibition will be offered enabling participants to learn more about the diversity and functions of soils. Several “best practice” examples of sustainable land use methods from Switzerland and around the world will be presented. The farmers will also hold a tasting of rooibos tea and wine. Furthermore, there will be two presentations focusing on the importance of healthy soils and sustainable land management. The presentations will be followed by a reception with refreshments.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 17 June 2015, from 15:00 to 19:00, at the University of Bern, UniS Building, Room A003, Schanzeneckstrasse 1, 3012 Bern. It is organized by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment (FOEN), the Swiss Federal Office of Agriculture (FOAG), the Centre for Development and Environment (CDE), and Agroscope.

Please find more information in the flyer.

We look forward to meeting you at the event.
