Evening event on sustainable land management and efforts to combat desertification - 15 April 2014

Apologies for cross-posting

Dear Madam/Sir

It is our pleasure to invite you to an evening event at the University of Bern highlighting efforts by the United Nations and Switzerland to promote sustainable land management and combat desertification.

Monique Barbut, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), in Bern on an official visit, will deliver a keynote address on the importance of land as a natural resource. In particular, Ms Barbut will highlight why land matters in the post-2015 development framework and in the process of defining new Sustainable Development Goals. Various contributors will present Switzerland’s political, scientific, and financial engagement to combat desertification.

The evening event will take place on Tuesday, 15 April 2014, from 18:15 to 20:00, at the University of Bern, UniS, Schanzeneckstrasse 1, 3012 Bern. The event will be followed by refreshments (“apéro riche”).

This is a public event. Participation is free of charge and no registration is required.

We look forward to meeting you at the event.
